PREVIOUS PROJECTS

Here are a few of the reclaimed and recycled projects I’ve done in the past. Unfortunately all of them are one off creations and have already gone to new homes. If you would like any more inforation about any of the pieces you see here then please get in touch and we can discuss the options of sourcing a similar item.

ROLL TOP DESK

This desk (and its brother) spent the last 20 years hidden under a tarpaulin at the back of a garage. It was fully stripped apart and sanded, and the tambour canvas replaced before being stained, varnished and rebuilt. Its brother is still hiding under canvas awaiting some much-needed TLC.

BEECH DISPLAY CABINET

Found languishing in a damp basement, unfortunately the lower part of this dresser unit was ravaged by damp and rot and couldn’t be saved. The upper part was, in the main, pretty sound. A quick sand over and a coat of clear varnish was all I did to get this cabinet back into a usable state.

INDUSTRIAL FOOD MIXER LAMPSHADE

These industrial food mixer attachments were found dumped at the back of a kitchen at a soon-to-be demolished derelict hospital. Not being in the catering game, I immediately knew what I’d use these for…

RESCUED CABINET DOORS

The deserts of Qatar are littered with abandoned huts and farms, gradually being reclaimed by the sand. Occasionally you come across one where the wooden shutters and frames haven’t been sandblasted into oblivion and after a bit of glue and varnish they make great display boards and frames.

THE ZACHA REEL DESK

This top and shelf for this desk were made from one half of a cable reel. The addition of some reclaimed steel legs created an interesting and functional piece of furniture.

CABLE REEL SIDE TABLES

Cable reels can be found in a variety of sizes and, despite their evidently disposable nature, are often very solidly built. There are endless possibilities for their use!

MEDICAL DRIP STAND PENDANT LIGHT

I picked this up from a flea fair with no real idea what to do with it, and it sat gathering dust for ages. After seeing some lights for sale with coloured fabric cable I had a flash of inspiration… Some retro style Edison bulbs set off the design, with the deep red cable complimenting the chrome of the stand nicely.

STREET LIGHT LAMP

Rescued from the construction material graveyards of Doha, this street light was fully rewired to take a standard light bulb. Far more practical than the blinding light of the original bulb! Mounted in a scaffold board stand, it’s a great statement lighting solution.

THEATRE LIGHT LAMPS

Despite their popularity it is still possible to find old theatre lamps in junk shops and flea markets, and I love how they look when mounted on vintage surveyors tripods. I’ve made a few of these over the years but like them so much I’ve only ever been able to part with one of them.

PALLET BOOK CASES

A common player in the upcycling world, old pallets have endless potential. These small ones were perfect as a pair of wall mounted bookcases.
